The Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) are always looking for writers for the following publications:

  • Metro magazine,
  • Screen Education magazine, and
  • Study Guides.

All writers are paid for their articles. If you are interested in writing for us, please download our style guide and applicable Letter of Agreement. Our pay rates for writers are outlined below.

We prefer articles to be emailed to the editor as Microsoft Word files, including a two-line bio of the author. We also appreciate as many images as possible to be emailed or mailed on CD to the following address:

Metro magazine

Metro magazine specializes in essays and articles, reviews, interviews and analysis of Australian, New Zealand and Asian features and documentaries. It also covers television, radio, multimedia, animation, the internet, and new media.

The magazine also requires writers for technical reviews that would be of interest to people working in the film, television and media industries. Metro magazine includes reviews of editing hardware and software, cameras, lenses, sound equipment, etc.

Screen Education

Screen Education is a quarterly magazine written by and for teachers and students in primary and secondary schools in all curriculum areas, as well as some areas of tertiary study. The magazine also publishes articles by educators, scholars and critics.

The magazine includes practical classroom ideas, lesson plans and activities along with essays, study guides, updates on new technology, and book and DVD reviews. If you have had success with particular lessons or units of work, or you have ideas for innovative and stimulating class activities, why not share them with your peers? This is your forum: a vehicle for promoting the place of screen literacy in education.
